This week I heard a particularly interesting story from one of my co-workers while hanging around the proverbial water cooler. Mike, a gentleman who I discovered loves a good glass of whiskey even more than I, explained to me the recent changes that were scheduled to take effect at Makers Mark, a famous bourbon producer located in the heart of Kentucky. These “changes” had to do with altering the original formula by lowering the alcohol-by-volume (ABV) level. This tweak to the recipe was being made since MM had such high demand and limited production, so in essence, watering down the batches would allow them to ultimately make more product to distribute. In the age of information it is damn near impossible to put down the resources and pick up the pace on that little thing called action. As a small business owner you are bombarded with software solutions, productivity tips, time-saving tools and more marketing advice than you know what to do with. It is so easy to let these emails, status updates, blogs and late night internet crawls leave you paralyzed with ideas and action items for your business. I am sure you have seen a number of Apple ads in your day, i never watch T.V. and i have managed to see plenty of them. Their ads, like them or not, are VERY effective and if there is anything i have learned while building our company and helping others do the same it is to take what works for the experts and make it work for you.
